Constraint-directed negotiation of resource reallocations

چکیده

The resource reallocation problem requires multi-agent choices under multiple-criteria, most of which are based on qualitative attributes. The conditional specification of a reallocation request (e.g., requiring a swap for one workstation with another) results in chains of reallocation transactions, which increase in complexity with the number of resources and agents. Also, the initial intentions for transactions may differ from the final transaction due to give-or-take on resource components. This work is motivated by the human negotiation procedures, such as logrolling, bridging, and unlinking. We view the process of reallocation negotiations as being constraint based. Constraints can be used both for evaluation of existing alternatives as well as for creating new ones. We define a set of qualitative evaluation and relaxation (alternative generation) techniques based on human negotiation problem solving. The search uses several aspects of constraints, such as constraint importance, looseness, utility and threshold levels. We evolve a mixed problem solving approach in which agents search individually in the early stages and as a group in the later stages. The constraint-directed negotiation approach is validated for the quality of solution in comparison to expert human negotiators on a variety of negotiation problems using a partial factorial design. The final version of the problem solver performs marginally better than the expert on experimental problems.

Reachability Properties in Distributed Negotiation Negotiation Can be as Hard as Planning: Deciding Reachability Properties of Distributed Negotiation Schemes

Distributed negotiation schemes offer one approach to agreeing an allocation of resources among a set of individual agents. Such schemes attempt to agree a distribution via a sequence of locally agreed ‘deals’ – reallocations of resources among the agents – ending when the result satisfies some accepted criteria. Our aim in this article is to demonstrate that some natural decision questions ari...

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

Agent-based Fuzzy Constraint-directed Negotiation Mechanism for Planning and Scheduling in Supply Chain

This paper presents an agent-based fuzzy constraintdirected negotiation mechanism for planning and scheduling in supply chain. The supply chain scheduling problem is modeled as a set of fuzzy constraint satisfaction problems (FCSPs), interlinked together by inter-agent constraints. For converging each distinct firm’s interests, the conflicts among the set of FCSPs are resolved through negotiati...

Extremal Behaviour in Multiagent Contract Negotiation

We examine properties of a model of resource allocation in which several agents exchange resources in order to optimise their individual holdings. The schemes discussed relate to well-known negotiation protocols proposed in earlier work and we consider a number of alternative notions of “rationality” covering both quantitative measures, e.g. cooperative and individual rationality and more quali...
